artist statement

My work juxtaposes form and semiotics from various ceramic histories; east asian tea tradition, utilitarian filipino earthenware, and motifs of ancient culture. I make functional, wheel-thrown forms with simple decorative motifs representing abstractions of nature. I enjoy highlighting the textural clay body, applying a sense of roughness to delicate forms as if borne from soil or stone. By pairing delicate forms with the strength of atmospheric effects, my pieces embody a sense of organic movement and play.
